How To Setup Gmail/Google Account In Android ?

Most people use their Android device to check their email. You can use your smartphone or tablet to check multiple email accounts whether it’s through webmail or an actual email account setup on your device.

If there is one type of email account you will use on your Android device, it will be a Gmail account. If you don’t setup a Gmail account on your Android you will not be able to access all the features it has to offer such as the Android Marketplace etc. You can still log in with your Google account but you won’t be able to do all the things you could if you logged in with a Gmail account. Keep in mind that just because you sign up for a Gmail account doesn’t mean you have to use it for sending and receiving email. You can just let it sit there and do nothing.

One of the benefits of having a Gmail account on your Android device is that it syncs things such as your contacts and installed apps with your Gmail account. So if you get a new phone or have to wipe your device you will be able to restore these items.

One of the first things you will need to do when activating your device is to create a new Gmail account or add your existing account and there will be a wizard to walk you through the process. But if you want to add an additional Gmail account then that’s pretty simple to do as well.

Configure Gmail With Your Android Device

Open your Gmail app and then press the menu button on your device. Next, tap on Accounts and then on the Add account button. If you previously created your new Gmail account from your computer etc then you would click on Sign in, otherwise click on Create to make a new account.

If you choose to sign in then all you need to do is put in your username and password. If you are creating a new account then you will need to enter your first and last name as well as a username for your new account.

Once your username is accepted then you can choose a password. After that you will have to pick a security question and answer plus enter a secondary email address to be used if you forget your username or password.

Finally you just need to accept the Google terms of service and type in the letters to match the security code and your Gmail account will be created.

Once it’s done you will have the option to sync your contacts and Gmail between your Gmail account and phone. Now you will be able to check any of your Gmail accounts from one place.
